The Attic 20th Anniversary Gala went off without a hitch.  Founder and Executive Director of the Attic Youth Center, Carrie Jacobs said, “The night was better than I could have ever imagined and the Kids are more excited than ever.”  Attic youth and guests-donning bowties and ball gowns- filed into the glittering Crystal Tea Room in Center City Philadelphia to celebrate 20 years of unwavering service to LGBTQI youth.

Over 600 guests enjoyed the soulful sounds of a 10 piece Big Band, and new music from Jai Rodriguez, Celebrity Guest known best for his work on Queer Eye for a Straight Guy. The exquisite night exploding with gourmet food, live music and posh desserts was topped off by a energy packed auction headed by Omarosa of the popular television show, The Apprentice. By the end of the evening the dance floor was full and so was the donation box. A record number of supporters opened their wallets and donated generously to the Attic Youth Center in the hopes to help finance the Attic’s next 20 years.

MERKATO, A POP UP Multimedia Installation

Project Merkato, a multimedia installation created & produced by local film maker, Sosena Solomon, welcomes guests into the world of Ethiopian street vendors & artists alike. Solomon effectively recreates the Merkato street market by giving visitors a layered sensory experience. The air is thick with the scent of herbs and generous offerings of sliced bread sit at the entrance accompanied by authentic Ethiopian coffee.

Dust and gravel floors crunch beneath shoes, making the transportation from a garage in Philadelphia to the bustling streets of Merkato complete.  All senses are tickled, while still the film of a passing era tells the stories of lives forever changed by big industry. The installation is tangibly effective, centrally affecting and all together transporting.
